Colon hydrotherapy, also known as colonic irrigation, is an alternative medical procedure, similar to an enema. It involves the introduction of large amounts of water, sometimes infused with minerals or other materials, into the colon.
The patient lies on his/her back on a bed and is completely covered. Water of different temperatures flows into his/her colon through a plastic tube, which is attached to a speculum inserted into the anus. The waste then flows back out of the patient through a closed system machine and into the sewage. By performing a soft massage of the abdominal wall, the therapist can feel the problem areas and can guide the water to these points. There is no pain associated with the treatment at all there are no side effects.
A session usually lasts from 40 minutes to an hour depending on the individual. A complete beneficial treatment should consist of 6 – 7 sessions and a full treatment is recommended once a year.
